3 Ingredients That Will Save Your Color-Damaged Hair

Written by:

You've washed it, cut it and colored it, and now you want to style it. The problem is, your hair is seriously damaged. It was probably that hair dye you used a while back or too much time in the sun. So, what should you do next? Don't panic. You can repair even the most damaged of hair with healthy habits and moisturizing products. Using the following tips your hair will be back to its smooth, shiny best in no time.

Argan Oil

Harsh peroxide products can leave your hair looking and feeling dry. This is where a good conditioner comes in. Look for products that add plenty of moisture to your locks and incorporate natural ingredients - harmful chemicals and additives can only make the problem worse.

Look for products that have argan oil. This natural oil makes your hair look shiny and silky and help reverse any color damage. "Argan oil for hair can also help prevent inflammation that can lead to dandruff, scalp sores, itchiness, irritation and other scalp problems, which is why it’s hailed as a hair hero," says Natalie Lukaitis from Marie Claire.

Argan oil not only adds moisture to your hair, but it can also promote hair growth. "Argan oil makes sure that you don’t lose more hair follicles than the number of ones you grow," says Ramya Achanta in Style Craze. "Argan oil stimulates your scalp to produce more hair thereby beating the amount of hair follicles lost."

Some of the best products on the market that contain argan oil include The Ordinary's 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil and Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo from Herbal Essences.

Coconut Oil

Like argan oil, coconut oil nourishes your scalp and fights damage caused by at-home hair color kits and other products. You can apply a small amount of the stuff to your palms and use it as a conditioner once a week. Alternatively, treat yourself to a scalp massage for 10 minutes and then rinse.

"You don’t need to buy expensive deep-conditioning treatments for color-treated hair. It’s much more cost-effective and natural to use pure oils to condition your hair," says Wendee Lee, writing for Biconi. "Coconut oil on damaged hair or color-treated hair is a wonderful choice, since it is nourishing, safe, and gives hair a glossy sheen."

There are loads of products on the market that contain coconut oil, too. Look for shampoos and conditioners that incorporate this hair-strengthening miracle product like Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula Conditioning Shampoo or OGX Extra Strength Damage Remedy and Coconut Miracle Oil Shampoo.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera contains loads of minerals and vitamins. People use it to treat skin conditions such as acne and sunburn, but you can also apply it to color-damaged hair. The result? Stronger hair over time. Seek out hair products that contain aloe vera if you want to improve brittle hair. Alternatively, treat yourself to natural organic aloe vera gel like this one from Lagunamoon.

"[Aloe vera] helps stimulate hair growth from the dormant hair follicles on your scalp," says Meenal Rajapet in Style Craze. "It also helps nourish and condition your hair strands, preventing breakage and split ends."

Using these natural ingredients, you'll be able to restore dry, limp, broken hair from pesky peroxide products and leave your locks looking luscious.
