Yes, I am the queen of long post titles! This is a good one, so stick with me. Lip products have always been my favorite makeup items to pick up. It’s a super easy way to add a little color, shine, or sparkle to a look, and there are so many wonderful formulas for all price points. Today, I want to share 5 lip products you can find at the drugstore that are truly great, and that I think are just as good as any product you can find at your local Sephora or department store.
One of my favorite lipstick-balm hybrids is the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine. Perfect amount of semi-sheer color, hydration, and glossy shine. If I told you I found something at the drugstore that rivals this formula, would you believe me? Please do, because I really think I have. That product is the L’Oreal Colour Riche Shine Glossy Lipstick. Gorgeous color range? Check. Super comfortable and hydrating on the lips? Check. Imparts a lovely glossy finish without any stickiness or tack? CHECK. My favorite shades (above) are all perfect for everyday wear (L-R): Varnished Rosewood (my personal favorite for fall/winter everyday looks); Shining Peach; Glossy Fawn.
Do you ever think, “I’d really love an everyday nude lip pencil that doesn’t drag, is really comfortable to wear, can make my lips appear more pouty, and looks great on its own or underneath lip color?” Yeah, me too! And, I think I’ve found the perfect lip pencil at the drugstore: enter, NYX Slide On Lip Pencil in Sugar Glass. A perfect your-lips-but-better nude that, as its name suggests, really easily glides onto lips.
If you’re a lip gloss lover like me, you need to check out the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss line - I’m especially loving the shade Rosy Future for fall, a really gorgeous neutral rosy mauve with very fine shimmer. This formula is extremely comfortable on the lips, so much so that I'd even say it imparts hydration, without ever feeling sticky or tacky. I think that most of the shades are semi-sheer - you get good color payoff, and really lovely shine.
If you want a little bit of sheen without any shimmer or a real gloss effect, then absolutely try Revlon Kiss Plumping Lip Cremes. This formula is really dreamy - smooth, non sticky, a bit sheen-y and, like everything else here, not sticky in the least. My personal favorite color is nude honey - a perfect won't-wash-you-out-nude that looks great for everyday on its own, or over any neutral lipstick.
Although I gravitate towards more satin or gloss finishes, I do enjoy a matte formula for its longevity, and, for the velvety finish it can provide - a real old Hollywood type of vibe, I think. Some formulas, however, can irritate my lips, or leave them feeling dry, or looking cracked. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cremes to the rescue here! This formula is so, so nice - more of a cream that looks super velvety, and feels incredibly comfortable and non-drying.
