I wear makeup on a daily basis. Are there days when I let my skin breath and go out SPF + moisturizer only? Of course. But, more often than not, I have on a full face because 1. I love the ritual of applying makeup, and 2. I love trying new products constantly.
Wearing makeup so often can do a number on skin, though, if it's left on overnight, or, not removed entirely. I'm talking clogged pores, acne-causing bacteria - nothing that I want to experience. I'm proud of how far my skin has come despite wearing makeup most days. I suffered from pretty bad breakouts throughout high school and college, and, instead of thoroughly removing my makeup I caked it on, and instead of helping my oily skin out with hydration I caked heavy powder on top of heavy foundation.
Now, many years later, I have found what works for myself, and, what has worked for friends that I have suggested products to. I think of this routine as a fresh start for my skin - an ability for my pores to recharge, hydrate, and get in shape overnight for makeup smooth, seamless application the following morning.
If you have combination or oily skin (something I have dealt with for most of my life), and are wary of applying moisturizer, please hear me out! It's only when I stopped applying powder, and started loading up on moisturizer, that my skin balanced out, and stopped producing excess oil. By avoiding moisturizer, your skin may dry out, and thus produce more oil. Try looking for a non-comedogenic moisturizer - formulas that are water based.
