I totally didn’t wash my face last night. It was just one of those nights - you know what I’m talking about right? The ones where it takes all your energy just to crawl beneath the comforter and the normal nighttime routine is simply too much to ask. I wish I could say this was the first and only time this happened, but I’m not here to spread lies like that.
Well, according to New York-based dermatologist Rachel Nazarian, it can be pretty dismal: “Makeup prevents pores from being cleaned out, leaving them larger and more noticable. The makeup and the dirt, oil, and bacteria that have mixed with it during the day blocks the skin's ability to refresh and heal itself while the free radicals cause premature aging," she says.
Fortunately for me, and everyone else who went to bed in full foundation, there are some face masks that can help offset some of the damaging effects of a neglectful night (after you cleansed the next morning of course).
This hydrogel sheet mask gives skin an instant lift in as few as ten minutes. Incorporating Lancome’s favorite Advanced Genifique serum which strengthens and protects the skin’s moisture barrier, this mask promises to instantly plump, glow, and smooth skin. Perfect for a sudden infusion of moisture, this mask won’t leave skin feeling tight or shiny, unlike some more traditional face masks.
Recommended for bi-weekly use, this “mattifying mask” absorbs oil and environmental pollutants to help detoxify your skin. The activated charcoal sucks all the gunk out of your pores, while the mineral clay soaks up impurities, leaving you with skin that feels fresh. This traditional mask should be applied in a thin, even layer over clean, dry skin, and left to sit for ten minutes, or until dry. Then rinse well, apply your favorite moisturizer, and enjoy visibly smaller pores.
This four-dollar solution packs a lot of punch for something so inexpensive! Grapefruit extract and infused vitamin C help to reduce the visibility of pores and make your skin tone more even. First, you use the scrub to cleanse and exfoliate the skin; then, you apply the face peel to ensure that you feel bright and refreshed. Petroleum-, Sulfate-, and paraben-free, this mask is available at local drug stores and Target.
Because you shouldn’t neglect your lips. If slathering on lip balm just isn’t cutting it, pick up this shea butter, coconut oil, and licorice root hydrating mask. It’s a vegan remedy for chapped, dry lips that will leave you soft and totally kissable.
